1.8 million m² of solar mirrors for one of the world’s largest renewable energy projects

With a total capacity of 950MW of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and Photovoltaics (PV), the Noor Energy 1 project, phase 4 of MOHAMMED BIN RASHID SOLAR PARK in Dubai, is the largest single-site CSP project in the world with a planned capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030. A solar park spanning a total area of 77 km2 in Saih Al-Dahal, about 50 kilometers south of the city of Dubai, operated by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

AGC – a pioneer in mirrors and glass

AGC was selected to supply particularly low-iron solar glass for a considerable proportion of the parabolic mirrors and successfully completes the supply of 1.8 million m² SunMax Premium Reflect flat solar mirrors through our customer Shanghai Electric BrightSource Solar Energy Co.,Ltd.

More than 280,000 AGC high reflectivity solar mirrors mounted on 70,000 computer-controlled carriers – so-called heliostats – concentrate the sunlight on the world´s tallest power tower, at 260 meters!

“Today, AGC Glass Europe is a leading manufacturer of flat solar mirrors for Solar Tower Power Plants. As a strategic partner of BrightSource Energy, we had the great honor to supply the flat solar mirrors to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.”

Thomas Keyser, Product Manager AGC Solar:

For the past decade, we’ve been working together with AGC – from the first solar mirror and its qualification process, through to the R&D of functional coatings and next-generation, high-performance and low-cost solar technologies. We’re happy to partner with the professional R&D and engineering departments of such a world leader in solar mirror manufacturing and we’re sure we’ll continue this fruitful collaboration in the future.
